May 16, 2015 Elmer/Tipton, OK Tornado

This was a complex forecast. The trough coming in was very potent and had potential to create an outbreak. But of course, early precip put a damper on most of the warm sector. This storm was isolated and the furthest south in a string of supercells. 15 minutes after finally making it south to watch the storm, it produced. We watching it for quite a while before losing it in the rain. After following the storm north into Snyder, I decided to call off the day.

  • Very low contrast shot of the tornado west of Shamrock, TX. Time is 3:14.
  • This was the supercell as we saw in on the TX side of the Red River. It was rapidly intensifying at this point.
  • Couldn't change my lens in time to snap a pic of the large cone on the ground. But here it is just after it lifted into a bowl funnel.
  • GoPro still of the structure with the tornado at the bottom.
  • Rotation was really ramping up right here. This was my cue to go back north and see if we could see anything.
  • She was a beauty and a beast. Huge violent tornado came out of the rain.
  • We went east towards Tipton. The wedge was being obscured by rain.
  • It was still there. The roar was very audible.
  • After it cleared out the rain, It morphed into this very large white cone tornado.
  • New rotation right above my hear. I thought it was about to drop, so we kept going east.
  • As the contrast grew poor, I snapped a couple pics into the rain, barely being able to see anything. The tornado was still strong, but not near as wide as before.
  • We let the supercell pass us near Cache, OK and decided to head home.
