February 9, 2013 First Chase

A powerful trough was ejecting over the southern Plains. Unfortunately it happened so quickly there was little time to grab moisture from the Gulf. The end result was a very windy and cloudy day in some parts of the panhandle, and very windy with copious amounts of blowing dust for others. These are the only pics I grabbed, seeing how it was a rather lack-luster day. All pics were taken in or just outside of Clarendon, TX. Total miles driven: 130 miles

As the afternoon turned to evening, some wanna-be storms tried forming. Unfortunately lack of instability in this high sheared environment meant a lot of this; bubbling cumulus being laid over and orphaned from the base.

As the afternoon turned to evening, some wanna-be storms tried forming. Unfortunately lack of instability in this high sheared environment meant a lot of this; bubbling cumulus being laid over and orphaned from the base.

  • Symbolic of the day; everything looked good except for one hole in the ingredients. In today's case, lack of moisture really wasted a good system.
  • Putting a fork in this day and heading home. Not before a great sunset though.
  • The sun would later disappear before reaching the horizon behind a distant wall of dirt.
