Still on I-40, about 9 miles east of Groom.

Panoramic of our little chaser convergence. My car in the middle, Chris Rice's truck behind me, and Jason Boggs in the red SUV. We soon break away and catch up with that storm in the background.

Now near Matador, TX where our convection has also corkscrewed into a mini supercell.

<br />
About 4 miles NE of Matador, looking north at our storm. Its in its dying phase, yet it manages to spit out some great CG strikes.

<br />
Still looking north. I was using my cheap-o Kodak camera on auto settings, and a 30 second shutter.

<br />
Hellava strike! It illuminates the entire updraft, which can be seen weakening.

Glad I got this bolt, which came out of the top of the updraft. Too many times I miss shots like this. This was the end of this storm...

Turning back southwest, looking towards Matador, and another storm has fired up and would occasionally shoot out some CG strikes.

<br />
The storm itself takes on the shape of a spacecraft, hovering vicariously over Matador.

Final shot of the day turns out to be a real winner. We head back to Amarillo after this to rest up for the big day...the 22nd.

The big day, and with some time to kill we go take a look at TIV2. Chris Rice in front of me.

What's that off in the distance...?

<br />
That would be this beast. Looking southwest on I-40 between the HWY 70 intersections.

The base rotates quickly around and forms this 'gator head' inflow notch.
  • The funnel on the left is what's left of the old wall cloud, and begins to spin rapidly. On the right of that is the new wall cloud and funnel poking down.

The occluding funnel tightens up and makes contact with the ground just as it disappears.

The funnel to the right strengthens and becomes a gorgeous tube!

Classic appearance with the RFD cutting nicely around the wall cloud.
