April 20-22, 2010 - TX Panhandle

3 days in April, which could only be described as the classic definition of a classic system. It was a stint of days where we couldn't lose. It was just perfect. 11 tornadoes in 3 days, all confined within 100 miles of my home in Amarillo

Now in the town of Bushland looking west. The meso spins and a wall cloud forms in the center.

4 miles west of Bushland, looking west at this rapidly rotating cone funnel. Its strange...the entire base looks sloppy and there's no clear RFD cut from my angle...

Regardless the funnel tightens up and a tornado condensates all the way down. Everyone that was around me flees quickly.
  • Tornado maxes out in width only a mile from me (and this random guy that leaves after he takes this).
  • I start moving closer but large hail prevented me from getting really close. The tornado shrinks away as the traffic continues.

Funnel hasn't moved at all, and now the main show has lifted but this bowl funnel is still spitting vortices out.

Later, after fighting the core, I try for another intercept. Only this time the storm becomes a massive high precipitation supercell. So a nice sunset will have to do.

My first glimpse of my first storm, driving south on I-27 near Tulia, TX.

Gaining a supercellular look. Still looking south.

Now driving east out of Plainview, TX on HWY 70.

Trying to get a pic out the window, and catch a fly instead.

Cleaned lens now. Still driving eastward nearing the town of Lockney. Absolute nuclear bomb of an updraft with over-shooting top.

Incredible mixture of colors as I get behind the storm. This was a few miles east of Lockney, looking northeast.

Our storm becomes HP garbage. This small storm turned into a classic LP storm.

Soon it transferred into a mini-supercell as it corkscrewed above us.

This was a difficult shot I took. This is basically a 90° vertical panoramic.
